Poker News Boy has in a very short time become one of the leading Poker News websites that can be found on the Internet. It has always been known for suppling its readers with great content that is updated daily.

Then just last week PNB had a massive revamp, that has seen it transfer from a site that offers create information for Poker Players, to a site that soon become a leading resource for all poker players.

I have worked closely with PNB Team since I first started in the Poker Industry. I have followed them from when they put up there first few pages, to where they are now. And although readers might think that PNB has finished with the revamp, because the look and feel of the website is finished, they couldn’t be more wrong.

The new design the Poker News Boy are using is just the start of things to come, and currently there is still changes going on in the background that the poker playing readers wouldn’t even notice. For example, one of the things that are going on is the addition of Poker Player Bio’s, which they are still working on. You also have the new review section which has been totally revamped and all new Poker Bonuses have been added so players looking to sign up at the poker sites PNB promote get a greater poker bonus than before. An example of this is the addition of pages such as the Bodog Poker Bonus page or Doyles Room Bonus Code page where there is info to help PNB readers to get the best bonus for each room. They also review the individual rooms as well in an unbiased fashion. Site like Ultimate Bet and Carbon Poker have all been reviewed plus more poker room reviews.

Other new features is the addition of the much awaited Poker News Boy Newsletter, that will be sent out to subscibers on a weekly basis. you also have the inclusion on the PNB approved Poker Websites. This is a section where PNB has approved other Poker Websites as good resources for its readers.

However, there is still plenty of new features expecting to come in a few weeks. With plans of a PNB League and Poker Forum expecting to come soon. This is an exciting time for Poker News Boy, you should check it out.

Everywhere you look, you are being confronted with online poker. Watch any televised poker tournament and at half the final table are online poker players. Once you decide to give online poker a try, you want to give yourself the best chance at success. Here are four tips to help you get started the right way.

Deposit Bonuses

Almost every poker site offers a very attractive bonus when you make your first cash deposit. Usually they will match your deposit 100% and sometimes even more. Most sites will require you to play a certain number of qualified hands on their site before they give you the bonus. They have specific methods of determining what hands qualify. Read the fine print and figure out how hard or easy it will be to get your bonus from each site that interests you.

Test Drive the User Interface

You will have eliminated quite a few sites just by carefully examining their bonus. To maximize that bonus you will need to spend quite a bit of time playing on their site so it is important to be comfortable with how you play on their tables. All of the poker sites allow you to download their software for free and play in freeroll tournaments and live games using play money. Go ahead and try out 2 or 3 of your top contenders. Many let you change the look of the table and players as well as the deck of cards used. Make sure you find the methods of folding and sizing your bets easy and comfortable.

Money Management

By now one of the many poker sites has separated themselves from the pack. It is time to make that first deposit and start playing. Variance is the single biggest obstacle to your success. Everyone will suffer a losing streak, even the professional poker player. Solid bankroll management is the key to surviving variance. As a general rule, you should never risk more than 2% of your bankroll on a single poker tournament. In cash games do not risk more than 5% in a single buy-in.

Mental Discipline

Poker online is not the same as in a casino. In a casino you may see 35 hands an hour. You will probably see more than 100 hands an hour playing online. This means you will take many more bad beats than you may be used to. If you go on tilt and start raising and calling when you shouldn’t, you will lose money very fast. It is much better for you to find something else to do until your discipline returns.

Armed with these tools you should be well on your way to success in the online poker community.

Have you ever thought, how do professional poker players make so much money playing poker?
Here is how, they all have a secret “weapon” that they keep to there self’s. You won’t find this in any poker theory book that they have wrote. So I’m going to tell you what it [...]

10-5 Offsuit, Best Hand in Poker

Have you ever thought, how do professional poker players make so much money playing poker?
Here is how, they all have a secret “weapon” that they keep to there self’s. You won’t find this in any poker theory book that they have wrote. So I’m going to tell you what it is. 10-5 offsuit!

All pro-poker players know this is the best hand in poker, why you may ask?
With this hand you have the ability to hit all straights, A-2-3-4-5 or 3-4-5-6-7 or 6-7-8-9-10 even 10-J-Q-K-A, any straight you can think of contains either a 5 or a 10. So you now you can see some of the reasons Pro’s play this hand, but there’s more. You might not know this, but you can hit 2 pair with 10-5, if a 10 and a 2 comes there you go 2 pair.

Another thing Amatuar poker players don’t know is, with 10-5 you have twice as many chances of hitting trips than you would if you had, say pocket Kings. With Kings you only have the chance of hitting Trip Kings.
Where as 10-5 has twice as many chances of hitting Trips. As you can hit Trip 5’s or Trip 10’s.

So now you see the benifits of playing 10-5. Now imagine all that power you have with 10-5, now unsuited.
You have all the power 10-5 has but now twice as many chances at hitting a flush, making 10-5 unsuited almost unbeatable.

Unless some idiot hits “lucky” with his suited A-K !

I thought I would give you some advice about Bankroll Management.
If you check what the so called experts say about Bankroll management is that when playing a tournament you should have about 40 – 50 buyins. Well, this is rubbish, and thats why these so called experts write about bankroll management instead of actually making money playing poker. You will never find me writing about bankroll management I’m to busy playing poker.

So back to Bankroll management. I as was saying these “experts” tell you you should have about 40 -50 buyins to play that tournament so if you deposit $10 and your a new player you have to spend the next 5 -6 years playing 20c buyins. Good luck with that. I’m telling you to put all your money in the next tournament. So instead of you playing a tournament for 20c, winning and getting a $1 for your trouble. Im telling you to put the $10 in a tournament, preferable a big one, then you have more chance of making big money and move up the ranks instead of playing 20c tournaments for the next 5 years.

So I’ll go in to a wee bit more. Here is a formula to work out what you should be playing.

First to make sure poker is worth your time work out how much you make in your own job, your Pay per Hour. So for the formula we’ll call this: P for Pay

Second you have to work out how many players are going to be in the tournament. So for the for the formula we’ll call this: P for Players.

Thirdly work out how long it is going to take. So we’ll call this T for Time.

So know we have
P = Pay
P = Players
T = Time

So say you make $20 an hour at your work. So P = 20
And there is 1000 players in the tournament. So P = 1000
And the tournament will last about 10 hrs. So T = 10

Now we have our values, we put it in the formula.

So If the tournament lasts 10hrs and you get paid $20 a hour you will need to win at least $200 to make it worth your while. So we use formula P x T = what you need to win.

So know we need to know how much you will win so we know theres 1000 player, P and the winner usually gets 40% of the prize pool so what you can win is 1000 x 0.4 = 400. this tells us you wil win about 400 times your buyin. So times that by your buyin and thats how much you’ll win. so P x 0.4 x buyin is what you ll win.

So know we know P x T will need to equal P x 0.4. so P x T = P x 0.4 x buyin

So remember this formula when ever you go to play a tournament it is so easy to use you will even know how to use it.

PxT=Px0.4xBuyin There you go bankroll made simple, and easy to follow, with a straight foward formula.

So I’ve deposited in Raider Poker. Only deposited a little. $500 (about 0.0000001% of my bankroll) just to try it out.
Lets see if I can turn it into $10 million. Should be easy!

So the first tournament I played is just $3 tournament. I should play for more as I’m great, but who cares.
And those idiots at Raider Poker made it a guaranteed $150 prize fund even though theres only 30 donks in it. Idoits!

The blind are 10/20 and some idiot raised my Big Blind to 60. I had 10-4 offsuit, (not as good as 10-5 offsuit) so to let him know I had a monster I moved allin for 1500, and the idoit folded.
After two hand’s, already up 60. I am the greatest. Suck that you idiot, trying to raise my BB.

Got A-9 in early position so raise to 700 (70 times the big blind) and some idoit calls with A-J, Flop comes A-5-9 turn K river 7, I knock him out what an idiot calling with A-J. Now on 2480, I should quit now, but for some reason it won’t let me. Who cares I’m going to win anyway.

Lost my first hand, had J-J and the flop come K-7-3, I had a feeling he had a king so i fold before he can bet. Yes I am that good, I can read you like morse code.

Won another big hand, had K-J offsuit, should have folded, no one had raised yet so I call, the flop comes A-4-5 with two spades. Knowing I had the King of spades, I slow play to try and trap, the idiot raises, so I call. The turn comes a 10 of spades. Now I have the nuts, any Q or any spade. I check again and the idiot moves all in for 1700, so I call knowing I have the best hand. The idiot turns over his bluff A-10, I show him the nuts. The river is the 6 of spades. Knocked out another idiot!!

Got 9-6 in early position. I was going to raise, but had a feeling the BB had 10-5 offsuit so I fold. What a read. I have that guy in my shoe!

After an hour, sitting 8th with 4540 chips. Disappointed I’ve not won it yet, but these idiots have hit lucky!

Got 9-9 in the Small Blind, some idiot (small stack) went allin, so know I have a near unbeatable hand I call.
He turns over K-J suited, the flop J-J-10 turn 8 river 9. That idiot nearly got lucky. But the best hand won in the long run.
Knocked out idiot number three!!

Got K-J on the small blind, folded round to me, should probably fold cause there’s not much money in the pot, but I know BB is an idiot, so raise know he will call and then I can out play him. But he must have just reliazed how good I am, and folds. What an Idiot!!

Lost a big pot to an Idiot there! He raised my big blind and I have a monster (5-7), so call to trap and the flop comes three hearts, I don’t have one so he probably doesn’t either, so I bet and he raises so I re-raise and he moves allin. I have to fold the lucky idiot probably had pocket 2s. I’ll Get him next time.

What a idiot I move allin on the bluff in the small blind, and the idiot in the BB calls. I have A-J and he has A-Q and the lucky shit hits the Q. What a lucky idiot! Do you know how to play poker! Away and play bingo you lucky Twat!
What an Idiot!!!

Finished 11th on the bubble, How unlucky am I, out played every one and still didn’t win! Better move up stakes and see if there’s less idiots up there. Probably not!

So after getting put out with that idiot hitting his queen, I thought I would go and play some cash tables at Raider. So put in $500, should be up to $5000 in about 20 minutes.

So I’m playing $5/$10 pot limit and I post my blind and down comes J-4 off and knowing I already have money in the pot and first to act I bet pot and the idiots all fold. This game is easy.

Next hand I’m big blind, and look down to see A-6 off what a great hand so it folded to small blind and he raises to $30 and I then make it $85 and he fold’s. He must know I’m the greatest poker player on this planet.

Small blind and some idiot raises in early position, I geuss he’s bluffing but I’ll fold I had pocket 9s off, but sometimes it’s good to let your oppenents know you can fold big hands. Still up $40.

Two hand later, I was under the gun, and had J-J this time I thought I would raise so I raise to $35 and small blind Re-Raises me to $80, what an idiot doesn’t he know I’ve got Jacks and there even offsuit, so I Re-Raise again to $190 and the idiot raises again he probably has K-7 or some rubbish like that so I go allin and the f@?#£r calls. I throw over my Jacks and the idiot, donkey, bingo playing “Richard” shows Aces I loss over $500 in one hand to that idiot.

So I have to go back to daddy and get some more money, that was all my bankroll.
So I learned from this, see all the best poker players are constantly learning, probably not Doyle he’s to old to learn, but the rest of us are. And I’ll never play off suit Jacks at a cash table again! lesson learned.

This has been a concept that most players think is a possible thing to do, think on people. You can not beat the poker donk no matter how you play your choosen game. A Poker donk can be found at all tables and at all levels.

Avoiding them is the key to beating them, this has been said before but how many of you reading this actually take player notes on these people? If you are beaten by a donk you take their name and a few notes not to go looking for them for revenge but to avoid them in the first place. The favourite place to find a donk will be in the MTT game simply because the buy in is small enough for them. The further you move up the less donks you will run into, as I said you won’t avoid them but you can cut back on the chance of running into them.

If you are getting into an MTT and it is a deepstack then you should take some advice that was given out at a SNG table by Supermario ( Forum Member ) the other night. For the first hour of the game sit back and don’t get involved in hands unless you are 100% sure that hand is yours. Don’t play marginal hands like suited connectors to early into a deepstack MTT.

Now if you are at a SNG and you get a donk at the table and to be honest they not hard to spot then leave and find another table. Please don’t get it into your head ” well I was hear and he won’t drive me away with his / her pathetic calls ” just move on and find yourself a safer table.

Most of us make money from the fish at the tables, don’t confuse a donk with a fish. A donk will always hit hands simply because they know no better, a fish is someone learning the game and think they know how to play. Remember if you can’t spot the donk at the table then you are the donk and Mumbo if your reading not all donks are french…..

Here’s a list of great poker quotes:

“One day a chump, the next day a champion. What a difference a day makes in tournament poker.”
Mike Sexton

“No matter how much you may want to think of Holdem as a card game played by people, in many respects it is even more valid to think of it as a game about people that happens to be played with cards.”
Phil Hellmuth

“I believe in poker the way I believe in the American Dream. Poker is good for you. It enriches the soul, sharpens the intellect, heals the spirit, and – when played well, nourishes the wallet. ”
Lou Krieger

“You call, gonna be all over, baby.”
Scotty Nguyen (sitting with the nuts as Kevin McBride is trying to decide whether to call him on the last hand of the 1998 WSOP)

“I’ve lost money so fast in these clubs it’s left me reeling. I’ve read every poker book ever written, but the only way to get better at the game is to go out and play with people who are really good. The problem is you stand to lose a lot of money doing it.”
Matt Damon, star of Rounders, 1998

“Limit poker is a science, but no-limit is an art. In limit, you are shooting at a target. In no-limit, the target comes alive and shoots back at you.”
Jack Strauss

“Try to decide how good your hand is at a given moment. Nothing else matters. Nothing!”
Doyle Brunson

“Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser”
Stu Ungar, three-time WSOP Champion Classic Poker Quotes

“Trust everyone, but always cut the cards.”
Benny Binion

“If you reraise a raiser, and he doesn’t raise you back, you know he has kicker problems.”
Crandall Addington

” The real things to know is that folks will stand to lose more than they will to win. That’s the most important percentage there is. I mean, if they lose, they’re willin’ to lose everything. If they win, they’re usually satisfied to win enough to pay for dinner and a show. The best gamblers know that.”
Puggy Pearson

“When we play, we must realize, before anything else, that we are out to make money.”
David Sklansky

“Baseball is like a poker game. Nobody wants to quit when he’s losing; nobody wants you to quit when you’re ahead. ”
Jackie Robinson

“Whether he likes it or not, a man’s character is stripped bare at the poker table; if the other players read him better than he does, he has only himself to blame. Unless he is both able and prepared to see himself as others do, flaws and all, he will be a loser in cards, as in life.”
Anthony Holden, from ‘Big Deal’

“See, in my world – the world of high-stakes gin and poker – we play for cold, hard cash. It’s all business, pure and simple. Anyone who thinks cardplaying is a ‘game’ – I’ll show you a loser. Money… M-O-N-E-Y. That’s how you measure success. One dollar at a time, One chip at a time. That’s how you keep score.”
Stu Unger

“It’s hard work. Gambling. Playing poker. Don’t let anyone tell you different. Think about what it’s like sitting at a poker table with people whose only goal is to cut your throat, take your money, and leave you out back talking to yourself about what went wrong inside. That probably sounds harsh. But that’s the way it is at the poker table. If you don’t believe me, then you’re the lamb that’s going off to the slaughter. ”
Stu Unger

“Poker is a microcosm of all we admire and disdain about capitalism and democracy. It can be rough-hewn or polished, warm or cold, charitable and caring, or hard and impersonal, fickle and elusive, but ultimately it is fair, and right, and just.”
Lou Krieger

“You cannot survive without that intangible quality we call heart. The mark of a top player is not how much he wins when he is winning but how he handles his losses. If you win for thirty days in a row, that makes no difference if on the thirty-first you have a bad night, go crazy, and throw it all away.”
Bobby Baldwin

“It’s morally wrong to let a sucker keep his money.”
‘Canada’ Bill Jones

“If, after the first twenty minutes, you don’t know who the sucker at the table is, it’s you.”
Unknown

“I never go looking for a sucker. I look for a Champion and make a sucker of him.”
‘Amarillo’ Slim Preston

“Sometimes you’ll miss a bet, sure, but it’s OK to miss a bet. Poker is an art form, of course, but sometimes you have to sacrifice art in favour of making a profit.”
Mike Caro Poker Proverbs

“Serious poker is no more about gambling than rock climbing is about taking risks.”
Alfred Alvarez

“Luck never made a man wise. ”
Seneca, from ‘Letters to Lucilius’

“Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect. ”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

“If you must play, decide upon three things at the start: the rules of the game, the stakes, and the quitting time.”
Chinese Proverb

“In a bet there is a fool and a thief. ”
Anonymous

“It’s not enough to succeed, others must fail.”
Gore Vidal

“The commonest mistake in history is underestimating your opponent; happens at the poker table all the time.”
General David Shoup

“Holdem is to stud what chess is to checkers.”
Johnny Moss

“At the gambling table, there are no fathers and sons.”
Chinese Proverb

“The next best thing to gambling and winning is gambling and losing.”
Nick ‘The Greek’ Dandalos

“Cards are war, in disguise of a sport.”

“Poker… I hardly even know her!”
Jack Styles

“Avoid people with gold teeth who want to play cards.”
George Carlin

“It is easy to smile at an insult and pretend it’s funny when the person insulting you is hosing you with money.”
Alfred Alvarez

“Poker is generally reckoned to be America’s second most popular after-dark activity. Sex is good, they say, but poker lasts longer. ”
Alfred Alvarez

“If you are a guy, you know you play too much poker if your wet dreams involve ‘nuts’ instead breasts.”
Anonymous

“I’m absolutely gonna win it, because I’m ruthless. I sit at the poker table and my job is to destroy people.”
James Woods

“No wife can endure a gambling husband, unless he is a steady winner. ”
Thomas Robert Dewar

“Poker: the art of civilized bushwhacking. ”
Nick “The Greek” Dandalos

“There are few things that are so unpardonably neglected in our country as poker. The upper class knows very little about it. Now and then you find ambassadors who have sort of a general knowledge of the game, but the ignorance of the people is fearful. Why, I have known clergymen, good men, kind-hearted, liberal, sincere, and all that, who did not know the meaning of a ‘flush’. It is enough to make one ashamed of the species.”
Mark Twain

“If their was no such thing as luck, I guess I’d win every time”

“The Lottery: A tax on people who are bad at math.”

“Poker represents the worst aspects of capitalism that have made our country so great.”
Walter Matthau Psychology Quotes

“Poker reveals to the frank observer something else of import—it will teach him about his own nature. Many bad players do not improve because the cannot bear self-knowledge.”
David Mamet

“Man is a gaming animal. He must always be trying to get the better in something or other. ”
Charles Lamb, from ‘Essays of Elia’ 1823

“Humans driven to take risks are more likely to thrive… Our passion for taking risks is a biological legacy… it is difficult to deny that the brain interprets risky behavior as a sign of strength. ”
Klaus Manhart, from ‘Lust for Danger’ Scientific American Mind, September 22nd 2005
